I'm still alive. Plus, big news.

Geesh. I was thinking about you guys today and when I logged in I realized it'd been a whole year since I posted last. That's probably a jerky move for a cancer patient. Y'all probably thought I was dead!

I'm happy to report that I AM STILL ALIVE!

A lot has happened. A LOT. I'll try to keep it short and organized.

1. I'm in remission. What does that mean? I have no visible tumors on my CT scans. As of February this year.

This is HUGE because it rarely/never happens for stage 4 kidney cancer patients. Like 5 percent chance, and I made it. I don't know why, but I made it. And I am thankful.

Of course, it's not the end. This could last a month or ten years. No one knows. The treatment is brand new, so I'm on the front edge of people this is happening to. There's no data about what happens next. So, I'll stay on treatment for two more years, and just hope it lasts.

2. In other news. I have released three books since last February, and my new/latest series is a HIT. So. I'm over the moon. Book 3 of the new series drops May 31. AND, I just signed an audiobook deal with a traditional publisher for this new series. Also big.

So other than COVID-19, 2020 has been a banner year for me!

We are in statewide shut down. But dude. We can't complain. We lived through Hurricane Katrina, so by comparison, this is a much easier to deal with crisis, at least as far as riding out the storm. Stay home with food and Internet? Okay.

Of course we take it seriously,because I'm at high risk, but we're taking it in stride.

I am thrilled to hear from you. I thought of you so often during my cancer journey this past 7 months (stage 4 ovarian...in remission now too). When I would feel sorry for myself and wondered if I would live, I thought my kids are grown and look at Thrift with young boys. I am so happy you are doing so well!

What an exciting update. It's nice to hear good news in a time like this. I also lived through Katrina, but this is so much worse for me. I think with Katrina, my life was already in transition (I flew to Boston for college on the Friday before it hit), so it didn't hit me as hard.

Anyways, I hope 2020 continues to treat you well!
