First trip ever to Aldi's

January 23rd, 2008 at 02:28 am

I went to Aldi's for the first time tonight. We needed a lot of pantry-stocking basics. At first, I wasn't impressed. The prices seemed very similar to those at Wal-mart on most items.

But the small savings must have added up. At the checkout, I paid a little less than $54 for an entire cartload of groceries. I'm guessing we can eat on that stuff for more than a week.

I even bought "luxury" items-- meat and fish, which we don't normally cook at home. Geesh. I can't even get by on $54 at Wal-Mart!

It's really time for me to start that price book so I have more than a vague idea of what things cost. I'll definitely be patronizing Aldi's again.

We don't have Aldi here but I shopped at their stores when I lived in Germany. I'd love to have one near me but the chances of that happening are ummm..slim to none! I've been to Costco in Dallas a couple times and I like that place, too.

As for a price book, mine saved my wallet many times!!

I love Aldi! It is not always conveinent, but if you stock up when you go, it is well worth the trip!

I've been meaning to get to Aldi for a while now. It's out of my way so I only go once every two months or so. I stock up on certain things when I go, canned tomatoes for example.

The quality of the fresh produce at each store is different. At my store, I find the price can't be beat on things like broccoli, fresh mushrooms, carrots, romaine hearts, apples, potatoes, onions, bananas (29-cents/lb!), cucumbers.

Aldi is my grocery foundation. As a single guy I can get by spending $20-25 for staples. I only need to spend another $15 to $20 at Jewel this way.

Love, love, love Aldi! I am fortunate as there is one about 1 - 1.5 miles from where I work (I have to pass it driving home) and there is one about 5 miles from my house. (a tad out of the way, but not crazily so)

My sister shops there and spends $50 every two weeks.

And my Aunt, who is notoriously picky about stuff like that, swears by the fish at Aldi. She says the prices are crazy. (in a good way)
