New reward credit card really paying off

August 5th, 2009 at 12:22 am

I just added up how much our new rewards credit card has added to Bean's college fund: $195, in "free" money.

(We pay off the card in full every two weeks, and use it for convenience.) It pays cash into a brokerage account we set up as a secondary college fund for the Bean.

If I had stuck with my former card, an Amazon rewards card, I would have netted less than $100, all in Amazon gift certificates. I really do think we made the right decision when we switched.

    Great job !!

The reward schemes, the few that exist, in Ireland suck.... the Government also taxes CCs 30/40 euro a year... that's just for having the CC... so my rewards would be eaten up by that anyway... which is why I don't have a CC..

You have it mastered tho !! And the Bean will be grateful, hopefully !, in years to come...

good work! (lol - i know it's not really work...)
i am happy when our rewards pay our annual bank fee ($395 a year - but its for everything, all of our bank accounts, discounts on rates and insurance, credit cards etc), which should be very soon. anything after that is just a bonus for me.
