I'm a freelance journalist and crafter who dreams of starting my own business-- a hometown Tiki bar. I am a former New Orleans Bourbon Street bartender.

This is my favorite personal finance article I have ever written. A year ago, I could have never gotten a story like this past any financial editors, but now that the crisis is in full swing and savings is finally hip, well, you know the rest of the story. I think the people on this site will appreciate the topic as well.

Well-written and interesting. I don't know if I could ever get my family to go on a spending diet for a month unless it was a necessity, but I may show them this article someday and see if they go for it!

I enjoyed the article - the spending diet sort of sounds like economic Lent. Can be kind of spiritual in a way.
