$1050 to the Mexico vacation!

September 10th, 2008 at 06:05 am

Yay! A small success. I got paid for my August freelance gig, so all of that money, $1050 is going to the Mexico vacation fund.

Hubby and I agreed that money from this project (it is long-term) will max out the vacation fund first, then be used 50-50 for savings and paying down the student loan. I already used $5,000 of it to max out my IRA for the year.

The vacation fund is up to $4,922.53. The goal is $6,000 by Feb. 2009.

Why so much for a trip to Mexico? Lodging can be expensive and airfare as well, but I've never spent more than $150 on food and other things while I've been down there.

The trip is two people for two weeks. I'm estimating high and including airfare, as well as travel between Mayan ruins and a week at a fancy cabin by the ocean at Tulum. I'd rather have too much than too little.

A few years back, I spent 5 months in Europe for $3,000. I
'm not sure I can do it that cheap again. Especially with my hubby.

Also, anything that is left stays in the vacation fund, and we have to fly to Lyon France later this year to visit friends.
