Overdoing my Superbowl party

February 7th, 2010 at 06:01 am

So, of course I am having a Superbowl party since the Saints are in for the first time ever. I've never had one before and I have no idea how many people are coming, but I think I have overdone it.

I am making two pots of red beans and rice (one reg., one vegetarian.) Picking up a giant box of Popeye's, making hurricanes (REAL ones, not the Pat O'Brien's blech), and the king cake from Haydel's arrived this morning. I'm also making chocolate cupcakes with yellow icing-- the closest I can come to black and gold. Plus, I have fleur-de-lis cupcake toppers and a giant Saints banner to hang.

It will be a true New Orleans food experience for all of my new Ohio friends. It should be interesting. Albeit a spendy treat.

Sounds fabulous! Since you don't know how many people you have, it is the Super Bowl, and you are introducing your guests to the spirit of Nawl Orleans ... I think its impossible to overdo it. If anything, word will get around that the no-shows really missed something.

Have a great time and enjoy yourselves! Freeze up the rice and beans if you end up with leftovers. Send the cupcakes home with someone if you end up with too many.

What fun! I took a lasagna out of the freezer DH had made and sent home with our dinner guests last night since we are going to their house today (they live down around the corner from us).

i have no idea what popeyes or hurricanes are; but the rest sounds freeze-able so even if you have made more you won't waste it Big Grin

It really was a great party. Everyone had fun, a lot of the food was eaten, and we have a nice fridge full of leftovers just in time for the next 12 inches of snow. Good times. I sure do miss New Orleans, but this was a nice night with our new friends up north.

    Everyone loved the king cake!
