Save me from pregnancy-driven home projects!

July 22nd, 2009 at 04:20 am

I don't know what it is about pregnancy. I feel literally deep down compelled and driven to fix up the house.

My main project has been clearing out the last guest room to transform it into a guest room/ nursery/ play room for the beans.

It had turned into the room where we moved everything that we no longer had room for somewhere else in the house. It's been a lot to go through.

I freecycled the full-size bed ( I have a futon in there instead), the old dresser from our master suite, and a 1960s telephone chair that had been sitting in the closet. I emptied the closets of almost everything-- a few odds and ends left. Tomorrow, I need to go through the cedar chest I inherited from my grandparents and decide what to keep, and where to put it.

I've also been cleaning out the garage and most of the closets trying to get rid of clutter. My new goal is to give what we don't use to the organizations and people who can most benefit, but that is a lot of work!

After this weekend, I am hoping to have the flooring replaced in our upstairs powder room (it is water damaged, from improper seating of the toilet). And, after I paint the new play room in an ocean theme, call the electrician to get a quote for some ceiling fans.

I don't know what's gotten into me. I haven't really felt the desire to fix the house since my last big project binge in February. Hubby took Bean on a week-long trip, so I redid our master bedroom and completely remodeled the bathroom that week and I was home -improvemented out.

But, these last few weeks I feel agitated and bothered if I'm not making progress. I suppose this is normal!

It must be the nesting instinct! LOL

aww that's cute! Smile if it's a positive thing i don't see why you shouldn't indulge your urges. as long as it doesn't cost too much!

we have a downstairs basement type part of our house where we crammed all our crap when we moved, and we have two spare rooms with next to nothing in them! odd, i know. i am hoping to aquire a couple of nice book cases so then we can unpack all our books, that will make one of our rooms seem less vacant and remove some stuff from downstairs.

Nesting for sure. Don't beat yourself up about it but try to focus on one room at a time. And just let it happen. It's strange. If you can get rid of crap with free signs on your stuff then do it. What's left over can go in a garbage bag. Take control in an positive environment. It will feel great! BTW, I did a lot of needle work for my first child, and I still have no clue how to do it. Pregnancy is strange.

I'm jealous...I feel like a sleepy koala bear all day long lately. I'm hoping for a burst of energy--or at least basic functioning--in second trimester.

The same exact thing happened to me with both my pregnancies! During my 2nd, we refinished our cabinets, bought all new stainless steel appliances, redid my oldest sons room into a big boy room, and I cleaned like crazy almost every day!

I am pregnant and going through this as well -- last night I assembled a 3-tier shelf and put DS's toys that had been in a big basket on them. This morning he promptly took everything off the shelves because he "liked the room messy", and I started bawling. Gotta love those hormones!

I also have a huge urge to wash all the windows -- they haven't been washed since I was PG with DS 4 years ago!

Ceejay, the sleepy wears off around week 20. Then you are in for it.

Thank goodness for that, thrift! Our house is going to need some decluttering and reorganizing before this is over, but at present all I want to do is lie face-down on the couch.
