What I would change...

January 28th, 2011 at 06:14 pm

Geesh. Easy peasy!

Ever since I've had children I'm exhausted, stressed-out, and angry. All the time. I used to be very relaxed and easy going, level-headed and fun. I don't like who I've turned into. I want to be my old self again.

Take better care of myself. I haven't had any time for my appearance since having kids 3 years ago. I look terrible. It's shameful really. I don't buy clothes because I haven't lost the baby weight and I don't want to spend the money when I'm hoping to lose it.

I'd have a real relationship with hubby. I miss how close we were before kids, and all the fun we used to have. Now, it's all work work work, kids kids kids.
Our friends tell us it will get better, but that seems so far away.

As you can tell, life has gone downhill in many ways since we had children. I adore my kids. and I love them very much, but let's be realistic. They change everything, and in ways you can't ever imagine before you have them. I want to get back to where I was in these areas.

Hi Thrift. I remember where you are now and at that stage in our lives things were hard. It took lots and lots of energy to keep things going with regard to the kids' lives AND we were very poor then and money was always tight. Now that my two boys are grown and out on their own though, I will tell you that I would do it all again in a heart beat and I would really BE there more. Looking back it seems I always had a to-do list and a zillion things at work and home to deal with and I spent lots of time when I should have been really WITH the kids, lving in my head in another day and time OTHER than right there. I know things seem hard now, but someday VERY soon you will look back and LONG for these times again. I wish I could really help you undestand this, but I know we must all discover it for ourselves. Try to enjoy them because they are grown up, on their own and gone before you know it. Someday you will realize this. I am not being judgmental with you at all...actually I am being judgmental about myself as I missed out on some things...

I just want hubby and me to be happier, spend more time together and have some fun, now that we are parents. It's horrible feeling like all the fun is gone.

(((Hugs))) Oh man, those early years are hard!!

No answers or solutions - all I do know is that sometimes when it was the worst, all of a sudden, something would get easier or better.

Before long, and definitely by the time you're an old mom and graying like me, you come to realize that every aspect of your life is in a constant state of flux, and that children, somehow, let you see that more clearly.

(Wow, and then you get to say things that may or may not make sense because old moms still have long days with their older kids and work, and are tired and should be getting to bed!)

Anyway - you've got many balls in the air (I read your blog!) and you are a great juggler. But make sure one of those balls is just for you, and another is for you and your husband. As you've well noticed work and kids will grab for all of the attention, but you, alone and with your husband, are equally important, if not more so at times. Take care and best wishes!!
