Baby resale isn't worth the hassle

January 28th, 2011 at 07:51 pm

I took a giant box of very nice things to the baby resale store today. It was so not worth it. They gave me $8.34. Seriously????

I've decided I am finished with baby resale. Either the stuff goes on craigslist or straight to the goodwill.

I always have to wait around forever to get my buy offer from the resale shop, it's an out of the way drive, and they always give me a pittance, yet the stuff in the store is expensive.

I'm done.

I agree. The resale shops do not give you nearly the cash the item is worth. I'd also rather sell (I prefer ebay depending on the item) and then donate.

I've never tried resale, but have sold numerous baby things on ebay and Craigslist - many sold for the price I paid for them.

I am the same way - Ebay/Craigslist, give away, or charity.

We received a lot of generous gifts from people with our baby this past year, and we are paying it forward to other families who are expecting... my experience with resale shops was also lacking, and we are having more fun giving stuff to people. It leads to such a strange reaction here (we are living overseas in an area where people just don't DO that), but it is definitely appreciated. We also have the insurance of knowing that our stuff is going to people who need it. If we were back in the States we would also probably eBay some larger items, as well. Good luck!
