Finally making some headway

January 19th, 2011 at 04:44 pm

The week is finally back on track. Okay, I'm playing catch up, but the kids are no longer sick, I am no longer sick, and I have a couple of hours free to catch up on work.

My freelance check landed in my account (delay posting due to MLK day), so I sent $300 to my IRA, $210 to the kids' 529 and $90 extra to the car loan. It feels good to inch ever so slightly closer to the goals.

Payday is Friday. Woo-hoo! Hopefully I'll be able to stash something in savings and still pay all the bills.

I also sold a book on Amazon. I bought it for 25 cents at a yard sale and sold it for $13. Must ship today. It's very exciting to make that much. It doesn't happen often.

I'm still anxious to get started on our taxes. Not a single 1099 or tax form has arrived yet. What is taking so long???

Some tax forms can be found online. I found this to be true with Vanguard and Fidelity.

I can't wait for my tax forms either! I want to get started. My mom said that it would be Feb 15 before taxes can be filed due to the last minute laws that were passed, they have to update the tax tables. Have anyone else heart this?

I've heard that, but that shouldn't affect the mailing of W-2s and 1099's right? Nothing on the income end should have changed.

As far as I know, companies have until Jan 31 to get there 1099's and w-2's mailed.

It's an amazing feat to produce w-2s and 1099s by Jan 31st. There is a large amount of reporting and double-checking which must go on before they can be sent. Printing and mailing the employee and recipient copies is only the tip of the iceburg.

I usually have something by now. It shouldn't take any longer this year than last.

As a W-2/1099 preparer, I agree with Petunia. The deadline is January 31st, and that is an amazing feat at times. There are many reasons why it might take longer this year than last. Since I was out 2 weeks for surgery, many of my clients will have to get their forms late this year. Will have the W-2s by Jan. 31, but the 1099 deadline is a little more lax. I usually tend to give my 1099s more priority, but I know in my absence, most will be late this year.

Just to share the perspective from the other side.
