What a weird day

February 22nd, 2010 at 02:53 am

I had to go to a trade show for work today, so my mom and sis came to help hubby with the babies.

When I walked in the door, Bean noticed the helicopter flying back and forth over our house. I didn't think much of it until I realized it was literally hovering on my block and it was really loud. Then, bunches of police cars started driving back and forth down my street.

Great, clearly someone is on the loose, so I put the whole house on lock down. Mom and sis weren't allowed to leave, all the doors locked, etc.

I still don't know exactly what happened, but when I finally sent the relatives home, there were 4 police cars in front of the house four doors down. I suppose the neighborhood gossip will fill me in later this week.

There have been some random crimes in our neighborhood lately, with people robbing people and stealing their cars when they are walking out of their garage. That kind of stuff makes me angry because we live in a nice quiet neighborhood and these folks are clearly coming from somewhere else to prey on my mostly elderly neighbors.

It also makes me angry because hubby gave our gun to his dad because he thinks we don't need it. I say be prepared, but I also have mixed feelings about having a gun in the house with babies. Maybe I should invest in a baseball bat or a bee bee gun!

The weird vibe followed through to dinner, when I made chicken casserole. The weird thing is I was on auto pilot. I have never once made a casserole in my entire life, but I must have been channeling my grandma because I didn't have to think about it and it turned out fine!

I hope tomorrow is much more boring than today.

It always concerns me when the helicopters are hovering over head. This has happened once or twice in over a decade of living in our house. I have done the same - locked up the house. . . and turned on the TV to find out what we're doing on the news.

Glad that you are safe and well!

that used to happen all the time where we used to live, but each time it was just because they were training the guys how to 'hover' and stuff like that, for resuing people stuck on cliffs and mountains Big Grin

I recently read that wasp spray is a good weapon...it has a direct stream and you can use it from far away. Smile Glad you are all okay!

I always get concerned when I see helicopters too! The last time they were overhead was because a teenager disappeared while swimming in the pond next door. I think they were trying to get a better view of where he might be. It didn't end happily.

That is scary hearing/seeing helicopters hovering nearby. It conjures up all kinds of worrisome possibilities. Here's hoping to a boring day!

Well, the funny thing is that things are still much calmer here than at my house in New Orleans. Once, I was gardening in my backyard when someone was shot at the end of the block. Next thing you know the shooter hops into my yard right next to me. (It's common to hop into backyards because the police on the street can't see you...) I told him to "get the F out of my yard." So, he climbed the fence, and when he was halfway up, said "Sorry." once he was gone I called the cops and when hubby came home there were 15 cops looking for a gun in our ivy patch. We laugh about it now....

Unfortunately, I hear helicopters nearly every day here, especially in good weather, because i live in a town that's on the flight path of a major helicopter manufacturer, Sikorsky Aircraft. They're a good 35 minute drive from me, but for some reason, we're on the flight path. Good grief. Everytime they pass overhead the grills on my windows vibrate.
