Thinking about getting a bartending gig

September 17th, 2008 at 06:48 pm

I'm thinking of applying for a part-time bartending gig. It'd be two nights a week. Probably the same nights. This would get me out of the house and provide some fun money to put toward the student loan and the tiki fund.

But, it might be rough working two 12-hour days then waking up and taking care of the bean, and it would take some schedule rearranging to make sure I get there on time for my shifts.

The hubby is against the idea. Not sure why. He says we don't NEED the money. I say we can use it.

Not sure what to do yet, but the window of opportunity is closing.

Are you saying the shifts are 12 hours? I have a friend who bartends evenings only. (She works full time and has kids as well). There may be better options. Or may make more sense later when the bean sleeps a bit more.

I think getting out of the house sounds great though.

P.S. I was going to say, you can always give it a try and see how it goes.

I wonder what else is bothering the hubby? That you'll get hit on by a bunch of drunken guys at the bar? To me, saying that you don't need the money sounds like a cover for something else.

I was just thinking the same thing as Broken Arrow.

I guess it would also depend on place of job as well. There is a huge difference regarding to type of customers and atmosphere when you compare a seedy bar on some dark street and rowdy bikers hangouts vs. upscale restaurants/wedding vendors.

It's a rock n roll bar. totally our scene. People we know hang out there and work there. I don't think it's a hit on thing that bothers him. I was a bartender when we met, a I think he just gets lonely at night when I am not there, and he worries about me coming home at 3a.m.

The shifts would last from about 3:30 p.m. to 3 a.m., twice a week.

Is the Bean teething yet? If not, I'd wait on the job because if he's not sleeping through the night now, he REALLY won't be sleeping through the night when those teeth start coming in. You'll be exhausted working 12-hour shifts.

He is finally sleeping through the night. We sleep trained him. I do think the teeth will be coming soon. Do you think it'd be too much even though it's only two nights a week? One may be a weekend, in which case the hubby can wake up and take care of him.
