Yay! A bonus!

February 14th, 2008 at 08:58 pm

Turns out the hubby is getting a bonus this year.

I don't know how much it will be after taxes but I am pretty sure it will be enough to pay off the last of the new windows we bought this month (around $3,000 left to pay) and to fund at least part of his Roth IRA for 2008 ($2,000 to $4,000).

It feels really great to be so close to meeting those 2008 goals and we're only in mid-Feb. Plus, it'll free up money to help us meet the rest of the year's goals, including maxing out the 529 college plan and adding $5,000 to our liquid savings.

With a little one on the way this is like pennies from heaven!!

Nice!!! You might want to put some aside for when the baby comes. My son had seizures a week after his birth. He's OK, but I still have medical bills because of that.

Just better to be prepared. After the baby is born and everything is ok, you could just reallocate the money.

Just a thought. And I hope baby and you are healthy. My intention is not to scare.

We do have a decent chunk of cash in our savings account to cover any unexpected medical bills. And, when we aren't paying for windows or furnaces we usually sock $500 to $1000 a month into that account. If we use the bonus for the windows and such, we would still have another month or so to save before the little one comes.

And I'm not shy about haggling with the insurance company when they need to pay up. I did it with our homeowners after Hurricane Katrina and I'll do it with health insurance after the baby is born.

In the meantime, I'm hoping for the best.
